I'm certain that is a least a small factor.  We always went out of our 
way to not duplicate any features that gc.com already had.... especially 
if they were premium features.  The only reason we continued to offer 
the downloads was that it was actually a stolen feature from our site. 
Since we had the features first we felt that we were entitled to 
continue with it, but we always asked that people show their 
appreciation for out site by first subscribing to the official site. 
Without the official site we wouldn't be able to do much of anything 
beyond the mailing list.
