Jeremy posted the following in the forums:

This afternoon PST we had an issue with the session state server. The session state server basically manages the logins for the site so it can remember you between the different web servers. The session state database is supposed to clean itself of old information but unfortunately it did not do this. As a result the database became full and started rejecting connections.

I added space in the database so it would start running as soon as I logged into the system. This will make sure the site runs fine while I do some diagnostics to fix the problem so it doesn't happen again.

Thanks to the folks who notified me of the issue today. We do have monitoring tools but it did not catch this particular issue. We'll put some additional checks so we're notified sooner in the future.

Sorry for the problems, but unfortunately Murphy's Law was at work today. I hope everyone has a great weekend.
