Hi everyone!!

Well the geoquilt is now complete and = tommorrow it=20 will go out of here via Fed Ex.

The plan is to have the quilt delivered = to=20 Moun10bike (thanks for doing this!). He's going to a caching event = on the=20 24th where a number of cachers from the Seattle area will be. Some = of the=20 unsigned squares will be signed there and at the same time they're going = to plan=20 the best way to personally deliver it to jeremy. Some squares = should be=20 left unsigned even when given to jeremy as he and his wife should sign = it. =20 These things become heirlooms so it is important for them to sign as=20 well.

Tteepee has posted 5 pictures of this = project and=20 created a link ..(by the way T your block is 3 over from the center next = to a=20 bee...my parent's square). Here is the link http://users.bestweb.net/~ttepee/Quilt.html

The current thread for this project is = under=20 general in the discussion board..."The Geoquilt is" with a thumbs up = icon near=20 it. If you want to read or have a comment.....

I wish that I would have done some kind = of media=20 coverage of this here. The quilt turned out so well....the = response was=20 great...and geocaching is still very new to the Buffalo NY = area.......coverage=20 would have increased caches near me.....but perhaps that is for the next = project.........

I am hoping to get a picture once the = quilt is=20 delivered and perhaps one at the caching event..........These could also = be=20 posted under "The Geoquilt is" thread.

The only related movie I could find was about Judge Roy Bean (western) in a movie called "West of the Pecos". So you had me sunk pretty bad into this! I'm extremely relieved to finally "find" this cache and put it to rest. I have no hard feelings to anyone for almost causing me to have a nervous breakdown, loose sleep for a week, and sinking me into a deep state of depression. :-) I'm actually very flattered to be the subject of your prank. I read the page for the "real" WotP cache.....but is = the=20 "trick" one archived? Could someone please tell me the number of the = trick cache=20 so I can enjoy the logs and fun from afar?

The gentleman who is in charge of the seminars over at REI would be very interested in getting someone to host a few Geocaching seminars. He and I talked for a time and I was told that they are constantly fielding questions about it. The people at REI who know someting about geocaching have only been doing it for a short time so he wants someone with a good deal of experience to run the seminars. I have no idea if they pay, but I would think that shouldn't matter. I told him that there are some very qualified people on this list who I think would do a fine job. If they are actually fineing people for cleaning up the forrest I was to get the fine in hand and go down to the local news services and have then run a story about how you aren'y allowed to clean up the forrest/desert. What about holding an event cache somewhere in Tonto, the objective of which (other than the social) would be to do a group cleanup of an area that needs it? I was originally thinking that we'd "just do it", but in light of the article I wonder if we shouldn't contact one of the NFS personnel named in the story, let them know what we're doing (and when and where). Perhaps we could even persuade someone to plant a traditional cache near the event cache, which then might be archived after the event. Not only would that provide additional incentive for people to show up, but if the NFS folks showed up we could show them what a cache is and is not. Maybe we could even offer the NFS people the opportunity to request where we'd do the cleanup. I'm open to any comments. TIA. But he does get even. 4) If you see someone in the desert with a gps and a piece of paper acting suspicious, ask them what team they are. Then they'll quit acting suspicous. 3) The second hundred is already harder than the first hundred. 2) If you wait long enough, SOMEONE will find the cache, no matter where it is. and my number one rule of geocaching..... 1) Mountain caches are ALWAYS on the top!! In the notes they say that they will change to "can't find" if someone else finds it later. Correct me if I am wrong, but isn't the "can't find" for when you can't find the cache, regardless of whether the cache is still there? Is there some sort of shame in not being able to find a cache? So far I have only had to log one cache as a "can't find" and I really thought that the cache had been taken based on the looks of the area but I still logged that I couldn't find it. Of course I later found out that the cache was there and I just didn't find it. I guess the only thing that I have noticed that bugs me more is the number of people that have logged my multi part cache as found when they simply find the first clue and in their log say that they will go after the rest of the cache when they have the time. Am I the only one that is bugged by this? Actually the only time I've used a not when I didn't find the cache was on the "Lookout Mountain" cache. We didn't even make it into the area of the cache (at least half a mile away) because of blocked roads and nightfall. I originally put it as a not found, but then after reading a few things on the Snaptek site, changed it to a note. What is the general consensus of when should a note be use in a case like that. I know there's a "article" on the Snaptek that addressed this but is what is mentioned in there what most people do. I'm not trying to be a follow the masses person, but I do think there should be some consistency to the whole thing. I know this isn't what you are refering to but I'd like to know if that's what most other people do. The only time that I logged a "can't find" was out in Southern California and it was in a park that happened to be very busy that day. I still went and walked around the general area and my GPS at one point reported being 0 feet away from the cache. The park was very busy and I didn't want to get on my hand and knees and crawl through the brush so we left. I logged it is a couldn't find and moved on. Next time I am out visiting family I will try it again and if I find it I will either leave the old log entry to edit it. The fact is that I couldn't find it on that trip. I agree that a note is the appropriate thing to do when you can't get to the area of the cache. Damn sunset!). It was less a 'can't find' as a request for confirmation of existense from the owner. Turns out that it was indeed there, and I located it the following week, so I left that 'note' as is. Seems like it's kosher to leave a 'note' if I run out of time/sunlight before completing a search - or, as in the case of 'Ya Skala', I'm forced to vacate the premises by security! (My fault, it was very late...) There shouldn't be any shame in not locating a cache. My only other 'can't find' is for 'Phoenician View' - a cache practically in my own backyard, just off of a trail that I've travelled over dozens of times! Ah, the irony... I WILL find that one sooner or later! I mentioned the one that I couldn't find out in California and it was the same way. The place where the cache was supposed to be had been recently bulldozed. I still looked around the area as well as we could considering that number of people in the park that day. When I logged it I still logged it as a couldn't find it because I couldn't. I guess my point is that it is irrelevant if the cache has been pilfered or not. To me it all depends on if I could find it or not. If I am unable to finish part of a multi-stage cache then I either use a note or do nothing, depending on how much activity the cache gets. Using the system provided on Geocaching.com to download waypoints is ....ponderous... for a large number of them. Oh. BTW. It's been said before, but just to reiterate, thanks for the excellent site. It is a credit to Arizona geocachers that you have put this site up. For us, a trek (for which we use the definition of time spent out of the car and attempting to reach the coordinates) ends in either a found or a not found (and a found for a traditional cache means obtaining posession and logging in, not just seeing the container). Take "Chandler Mini" for example. We didn't find it until the 4th try (the middle 2 attempts can only be attributed to hubris related to thinking we had solved the clues). Does it bug me that our found percentage fell below 80%. Of course, but that just means we have to be more resistant to giving up too quick in the future (and we now carry a flashlight in case we run out of daylight just as we get there). I'd rather have accurate stats than artificially inflated good stats (don't get me wrong, I'd actually like to have accurate good stats, but that will hopefully occur as we get better at this sport). I don't feel upset about it, this one hasn't been found by a lot of different people. :-) Take a look at the logs for "Scary" and you will see what I mean. To be honest, I don't know if we were ever close to this one or not. It is a steep hillside with LOTS of rocks and fallen trees. My GPS was all over the place and I never got it to report being under about 100 feet from the cache. I might have felt bad about not finding it if everyone else had, but that is not the case for this one. This was a very rarely used 4WD trail that had some good (challenging) sections. We had to bushwhack 1/4 mile to the cache site. This was dense, close, scrub brush which made going extremely tough (uphill, of course). My arms look like raw meat now. Normally, cache's are on the Top of hills. We got to the top, and had to go back down a ravine. 4 of us looked around for 45 minutes and couldn't find it. We had already spent 3 hours getting to this point, and it was going to get dark soon. We finally gave up and worked our way back to the Jeep. I drove out the West, as I didn't want to attempt going back the way we came in since it was getting late and didn't have another Jeep with us. Luckily, this route was much easier (but longer). We got out okay, but were disappointed for not finding the Seven of Seven cache after working so hard on it. I've Emailed Lincoln to verify what we did wrong. Oh well... It was still fun. I have done the 2 easier ones (one and five) but due to medical reasons, it is very difficult for me to do much hiking, very often (remember my carpal tunnel surgery last fall? I also have tarsal tunnel syndrome (same idea, in the feet) and peripheral neuropathy in my feet). Even "one of seven" put me out (feet-wise) for a couple days after the hike and scramble....I hate the idea that I have to "stay off my feet" (Dr's suggestion) after being so active when I was younger, so I just do the best I can with caching and enjoy reading about everyone else's exploits! That's why it is such a "BIG" deal (ha ha) for me to get to 30 caches, much less 100 or even your soon-to-be 300!!!! Time, and desire, I have. Message-ID: In regard to Steve and Trisha's recent posts - I will throw in my support towards any kind of cleanup program/cache, be it official or not. Seems as if geocachers are oftentimes the 'good guys' out there in the outback already, and are concientious about the 'trash out' ethic, more so than the average, casual wilderness user. Perhaps we can use that to our advantage to promote geocaching as a wilderness-friendly activity with obvious benefit to the environment, depending upon the approach we take with cleanups and the FS. I always considered it to be (to borrow a term from the Snaptek guys) 'good cache karma' to remove what I can each time I'm out on the trails. Some of them literally shock me with the amount of trash and discarded appliances left behind along them. I'll never understand what type of thinking allows this - as if it's OK to leave the stuff behind because it either does not matter, or that no one will see it, or someone else will take care of it. If you want to get drink you can get a whole lot more water out of a hose, but you are gonna have to turn it on and wait till the water gets to the end of the hose and then warms up.... or in other words, there is a HUGE latentcy of just under a second minimum. Now more people want just take sips of their drink and can immediatly get when drink though a straw making it feel faster than haveing to turn on the hose every time they want a sip. Or in other words the web is lots of little connections and it actually feels faster to browse it using a modem that a satelite dish. The exception being if you want to download lots of big files and thats about it. then the satelite dish could be the way to go. Anyway, this is from personal experience from having setup 4 different systems both 1 way and 2 way and I never got good quality bandwidth out of them and went back the the slower 56k ptp connection because of it "speed" :) Brian Cluff Team Snaptek P.S. Both contain travellers. I got permission from the originators of each traveller on placing them in Thailand before I went. I was very picky about where I placed both caches. I could have placed them about any day, but decided not to put them at the end of a long hike. Both caches are very near (short walk) of two major tourist centers. One is 0.3 miles from a large 5-star hotel where the countries of Myanmar (Burma), Laos and Thailand meet at a point. The other is a short walk from one of the more popular beaches in Phuket (Poo-ket), a major tourist destination. I believe that both caches will be found within the next 3 months, 6 at the latest. Both should be safe during this summer's rainy season.
